The 6th grade students learned about printmaking. They each had to design a line drawing that they transferred to a foam plate. They then printed a series of their artwork.

The 5th grade students sketched a letter keeping in mind a flat base for the letter to stand. They drew the letter on a piece of cardboard and cut it out. They then traced that same letter onto another piece of cardboard. Using paper towel and toilet paper rolls cut into smaller pieces the students glued the two cardboard letters together to create a 3-D letter. Using paper mache they covered the letters. Once this was dry the letters were painted with acrylic paint.
A few more projects we did in Adventures in art involved working with clay, yarn and shaving cream. The students used their imagination and creativity to make a variety of sculptures. They also made clay looms that they were able to weave on. Shaving cream and liquid watercolor were used to marbleize paper.
The 6th grade students used clay to create an animal. They were required to create a pinch pot then turn it into an animal of their choice. The pinch pot could be the base, a bowl shape, or the mouth of the animal. The students created their animals keeping in mind to slip and score every piece of clay they were attaching. After the clay had dried the sculptures were painted with tempera paint.
The 4th grade students created their own sketchbooks. They designed their cover using colored pencil and accordion folded white paper. They then glued the front and back cover to their accordion folded paper. Their first sketchbook assignment was to draw a self-portrait in the style of Roy Lichtenstein with Ben-Day Dots and a word bubble.
The 2nd grade students traced a variety of different sized circles. They then used oil pastels to color the circles to be their planets. They used either cool or warm colors for each planet and blended their oil pastels. They then used shiny paper and cut jagged lines into it, which acted as the planet they were standing on. Chalk was used to add stars onto the background. Each student's picture was glued to the background along with their space helmet.
