The 8th grade Artist Research Project was inspired by Chicago's Cows on Parade. Cows on Parade was when local artists painted, decorated, and dressed up fiberglass cow statues, and then exhibited them around the city for several months. The 8th graders were assigned a famous artist and were each given a plastic dinosaur instead of a rubber duck like last year. They had to paint the dinosaur in a way that represented the artist. Some students painted their dinosaur in the style of the artist, while others painted their dinosaur to look like the artist. I spray painted each dinosaur white, so the students would have a blank canvas to work with.

The preschool students used apples cut in half to print onto a piece of paper. They used green and red paint.
The 3rd grade students discussed line and all of the different types of line. Next, we talked about movement in art and how you can create it. Each student created a line design and colored a sheet of paper with markers. They then measured half inches across the back of their paper creating strips that they numbered 1-24. They then glued the strips down in order fanning them out. To create a moving line.
The kindergarten students learned about texture. They then created texture monsters from different materials. We then talked about how artist show texture in their drawings and the students drew the monsters they created.
The preschool students painted a paper plate green for their turtle shell. They then used toilet paper rolls to print circles onto their shells with blue and yellow paint. They used construction paper to add the turtles head, arms and legs.
In class we discussed different types of line. We then practiced folding and bending strips of paper to create those lines. The students made line sculptures out of the different strips of paper they had folded to create different types of line.
The 8th grade students used plastic mask molds to create paper mache masks. They then painted their masks in the design of their choice.
The first grade students learned about Alma Thomas and Collage. They painted concentric circles in bright colors. They then cut matching construction paper in squares and pasted them onto the corresponding color circle.
