5th Grade Day of the Dead Altars, Sugar Skulls, Tissue Paper Flowers and Papel Picado Flags10/28/2016 Last year each student made an individual altar for the Day of the Dead. This year the students in Mrs. Cheevers class made one large altar. In art class they made sugar skulls out of clay and decorated them with marker. They also made tissue paper flowers and papel picado flags to decorate the altar with.

The 5th grade students learned about radial design. They then had to create a stitched dot either from a pattern or created their own.
The kindergarten students drew pumpkins using curved lines to create a rounded shape. They then used red, yellow, orange and white paint to create different shades of orange on their pumpkins. They added expressions using black construction paper.
The student used torn paper to create their candy corn mosaics. They added arms, legs, and faces to their candy corn. The 8th grade students created a night sky by mixing paint to create different tints. They then used black paint to add branch silhouettes onto their night sky.
The preschool students created pumpkins with construction paper, scissors, and glue. They also created Frankensteins from a paper plate, construction paper, and green tempera paint.
The kindergarten students looked at picture of Autumn trees. We discussed how leaves turn red, yellow, and orange in the Fall and how these are warm colors. They then painted tree trunks with brown paint. Next, they each balled up a piece of foil and dipped it in the warm colors and stamped it onto their tree tops.
