The 7th grade students sketched out an animal of their choice. They then broke the animal into sections tracing those sections with black sharpie. Each section was filled with a different Zentangle (drawing structured patterns). They then painted their finished drawing with watercolor.

3rd grade students covered a white piece of paper with different colored scraps of tissue paper. They set this aside to dry. They then used oil pastels to draw fireworks on a black piece of paper. The tissue paper colors bled onto the white leaving beautiful multicolored sheets of paper. The students then drew the Statue of Liberty onto the colorful paper. They cut their drawing out and pasted it onto the black background with the fireworks. The end result appeared that the fireworks were reflected on the Statue of Liberty.
First grade students created guitars out of paper. They had to create a design on their guitar. The guitars were created with construction paper, tempera paint, foam shapes and yarn.
The 4th grade students learned about artist Keith Haring and gesture drawing. Students acted out gestures in front of the class. The other students did quick sketches of these gestures. They then chose their favorite gesture and drew it in the style of Keith Haring.
The 6th students learned about the artist James Rizzi. We discussed the characteristics of his artwork. In a lot of his work he uses bold black lines with bright colors, almond shaped eyes and upside down sevens for noses. The 6th graders created a self-portrait in the style of Rizzi.
The students learned about Vincent van Gogh and his painting Starry Night. The students showed movement in their drawings by using swirling lines. To create a sense of space in their art they overlapped their pumpkins. They also drew their pumpkins with curved lines so the pumpkins looked round instead of flat.
