The 4th grade students learned about silhouettes. They drew a banyan tree and colored it in with black sharpie. Using oil pastels they thought about what colors would mix well together (primary colors, analogous colors, cool/warm colors). They then blended the oil pastels in each section .
The 7th grade students learned about the elements of Art. They then had to draw something that represented each element inside of the squares on their worksheet. The worksheet was then cut and glued into the shape of a cube.
The 2nd grade students learned about Henri Matisse and his technique of Painting with Scissors. The students created their own version of Matisse's Goldfish. Watercolor with saran wrap was used to create the "water" in the goldfish bowl. The students then used different square and rectangle pieces of paper for their background. They finished off their work by "painting with scissors". They cut organic shapes of different color paper and added it to their art.
The 1st grade students talked about having original ideas in their artwork. We discussed things you wouldn't normally find in a sandwich. They used their imaginations to make silly sandwiches filled with all sorts of different things.
The 5th grade students learned about low relief (bas relief) sculpture. They then created a line design on a piece of card board. Using glue to trace their drawing they then laid yarn on top of the glue. After the glue and yarn dried the cardboard was covered with foil. Sharpie was used to color in the negative space between the lines that the yarn created.
